Detroit Pistons @ Chicago Bulls | 1991 Playoffs | ECF Game 2: Jordan MVP, leads Bulls to victory

The Detroit Pistons are used to frustrating other teams with their defense. Now the Chicago Bulls are doing it to them. The Pistons are used to establishing early momentum in a playoff series. Now the Bulls have done it to them. Chicago took another step toward reaching the National Basketball Association championship series with tonight’s 105-97 victory over Detroit at Chicago Stadium. The Bulls lead the four-of-seven-game series, 2-0, with Game 3 to be played Saturday afternoon in Auburn Hills, Mich. After the beating they suffered tonight, the Pistons look as if they can use three days’ rest. Chicago’s tenacious defense harassed the Pistons into turnovers, forced them to take bad shots, and made most trips downcourt about as pleasant as a trip to the dentist. No NBA team has won a four-of-seven-game series after falling behind, 2-0, since 1977. But to avoid being dethroned as two-time champions, that is exactly what the Pistons must do. “They took us out of our offense and dominated in every phase,” said Pistons Coach Chuck Daly. “Right now, they look hungrier than we are. I was surprised the score ended up that close because they dominated.” Michael Jordan (35 points on 10-for-18 shooting, 7 assists) and Scottie Pippen (21 points, 6-for-15 from the field, 10 rebounds) led a balanced Bulls attack. Jordan scored 27 points in the second half, but his teammates set the tone early by making Detroit pay for double-teaming Jordan. Nothing worked for Daly. He started Tree …

In regards to the comment about the case for Drexler as 1991 MVP, I couldn’t agree more with kOrOne79. Jordan averaged 10 points per game more than Clyde (31.5-21.5) while still shooting a much higher percentage (53.9-48.2) and having fewer turnovers. Drexler’s rebounding and assist averages (6.7 and 6.0) were slightly higher than MJ’s (6.0 and 5.5) but Jordan averaged nearly a steal per game more than Drexler (2.7-1.8) and was stronger on defense. I loved both players though. Clyde could ball.

kOrOne79 I am simply a 5′6 black dude and I can easily dunk over people. Anybody can do it, just use the right training program. I personally used the one over at 50inch vertical[dot]com but just about any workout is fine if they work (which many do not)

i remember those days, just a kid watching these playoffs in Australia when NBA basketball used to be Huge across the globe mainly because there were so many great teams and players, there still is but its really dropped off the radar since the late 90’s..it felt more real back then. it sort of feels a little gangster and egotistical now. back then it was souly about the skill of the game…

How do you boys like the hand-checking and physical NFL type defense? In those days it was a very physical game thus every player’s arsenal was totally focused. Imagine these guys playing in today’s rules? I am not knocking today’s players it just seems that today’s games are circus-like.

Michael is still the best ever
Kobe however is one of the best
but he is not Mike
and i am a big kobe fan

I never understood most the Kobe fan boys, the fact is you can’t argue opinions when it comes to the NBA, the only true argument would have to be stats and Kobe can’t touch Jordan’s stats…I don’t get why they don’t just put it to rest…If you wanna be the best, you gotta have the numbers cause an opinion isn’t enough.

I agree with everything you say my friend. But if he was slower it wasn’t by much and this was due to his increased size absilutely unbelievable, like horry said people never realised how strong the guy was

@mj45jh23sp33
i think the 96-98 version of mj was still incredibly fast and strong, but was definitely not as fast as the 84-93 mj( but his first step was still there sometime). but that doesn’t hurt much he can still jump and was super super smart. the way he played in 96-98 was probably the smoothest ever, as well as the whole team play( rivaled by maybe the prime larry bird)

piston’s 2 guards was good but it was the team d that stopped jordan for 3 straight years( as well as the immature bulls relying too much on mj)
July 31st, 2010 @ 4:40 pm
@olympiag1
not so sure about the second half of your comment. just because the team the bulls faced in the playoff didn’t have good 2 guards doesn’t mean they didn’t play good team defense. but then again who is good enough to guard jordan anyway? drexler? cooper or majerle? the fact is no one in the history of nba has a consistent record of stopping jordan. even those so called good defenders like alvin, doug christie and so on, none.

Funny to imagine Rodman playing with Pippen and MJ in the future, winning three more titles.
July 31st, 2010 @ 6:06 pm
its too bad no one noticed how dope pippen was cause he played with jordan
July 31st, 2010 @ 6:21 pm
lol kobe and lebron can try as hard as they want, but they will NEVER be on the same level as michael jordan
July 31st, 2010 @ 6:50 pm
back when men played in the NBA
July 31st, 2010 @ 7:49 pm
KOBE IS NOTHING COMPARED TO HIM DON’T POST CRAP ABOUT KOBE ON MJ VIDEOs
July 31st, 2010 @ 8:42 pm
Also he didn’t do as many highlight dunks and crazy play because he wanted to avoid injury and fatigue but believe when he felt like it he could do exactly the same stuff, now as a Wizard I agree he was not the same, but had he not had the knee trouble he would have finished that 02 season averaging over 25ppg LOL as a 39 yr old on a crap team. Sorry but But IN MY OPINION mj was the greatest and at the same level from 90-98
July 31st, 2010 @ 9:16 pm
RESPECT you opinion but i disagree about the 96-98 comment if you listen to his coaches and his team mates he was actually better from 32 to 35 as player. First of all he could still dunk from the free throw line at 34 and during the 96 season he was quick enough to guard guys such as stockton, A Johnson, KJ, Tim Hardaway, damon stoudamire ( who was scary quick back then), Gary payton etc, but RUDY T summed it up best in 98. “He is tougher than ever still the best athlete but so much smarter”
