Regan will always be the winner of this race as far as I’m concerned.

That was bullcrap. Tony forced him down there so how can you penalize Regan for someone else’s issue? It makes no sense. He should’ve never had the win taken away from him.

wow, make up your mind. to nascar and to the broadcasters. the guy was pleading his case to regan smith and as soon as they announced that tony won he immediately applauded nascar. -_-

Regan Smith won the 2008 AMP Energy 500, Tony should have finished 18th for forcing Regan below the yellow line

@TheALLTELDodge12, NASCAR instituted the double yellow line rule for a reason. It gets really slick below the apron via the yellow line, and cars could just come up the race track right into the field, as well as allowing wrecks to occur. Darrell Waltrip said that I believe. Daytona and Talladega are plate tracks meaning the cars are in bunched up packs, and the speeds are high all across the track, mostly without using the brakes. Besides, NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson ans Dale Jr. complained.

@Sportsgamer92 …I realize that its the rule, and even I dont agree with it, rules are rules, you’re right…it just puts the drivers into these precarious positions where wrecking the leader is the only option instead of being able to pass underneath…and where do you draw the line to decide if someone is forced down there “enough”?

@TheALLTELDodge12, that is the NASCAR rules. At least Keselowski didn’t go below the yellow line. He was respecting the rules, and he made SURE he didn’t go down there and Edwards came down and got him. It doesn’t make a difference Smith wasn’t forced down there enough. Keselowski kept his line, you are allowed to do that. He did NOTHING wrong, and neither did NASCAR. Why penalize a guy that kept his line, because if that was the case, Dale Jr. would’ve won the race. Get your facts straight.

Same situation two races in a row. In both races, the leader forces the 2nd place car, with a full head of steam, down to the yellow line. In one, the 2nd place car stays down like a true gentleman racer, comes back on the track, then passes the leader before the line. In the other, the 2nd place car doesnt give, sending the leader flying into the fence towards thousands of fans, injuring a few of them. And yet Nascar decides the 2nd scenario is a more appropriate win. What gives??

OK, so lemme tell a story. This race was on my birthday. As a Tony Stewart fan, naturally I was upset. However, after seeing replay’s I realized Tony forced him down. Regan did nothing wrong. I thought, “Well, I always love underdogs. Atta boy Regan!” Then NASCAR says Stewart won that. I did not cheer, nor did I bother to watch the post race interviews. I almost gave up NASCAR for good. I really should have.

What a fricken joke of a finish! Not only did Stewart force him down there, he didn’t actually pass Stewart until he was back above the double yellow. Regan Smith did nothing wrong at all, won the race, but Nascar took it away because he’s not a big name. This is exactly the reason we have results like ‘Dega ‘09 with Carl flipping.
